QUOTE(xavierx @ Apr 6 2007, 02:54 PM) Yeah, I saw that when you posted the update about a week ago, but he only has the "default" setup for the configurations, and a "safe" setting. I'm waiting for more details. In the mean time, I found this site that lists what each service does and what benefit there would be to disabling them, and this one that describes them in plain English (I especially like the Security Center description, "Protects noobs from themselves"). Yes Black Viper isn't finished with it yet. I trust him as for the sites you mentioned I will have to take a look. Thanks. The first site is written for The RTM release which is ~as the final. -------------------- ![]() |

Yeah, I can't wait for him to finish either. I trust him, and that means a lot when it comes to these kinds of decisions. What I've done so far is take the info from those two sites plus the info in the services window and make up my own mind about what I need. And I've already had to turn one back on. I turned the print spooler off because I don't really need it for my printer, but I had to turn it back on to get a "print to pdf" driver to work.

I bookmarked it. -------------------- ![]() |

Well I started with 56 processes running and printed out this guide and then disabled 12 services. I now have 58 processes running. Isn't M$ wonderful. This does not make sense to me. -------------------- ![]() |

It makes perfect sense - Windows Vista must be a virus.
Seriously, I couldn't explain that. I don't think that happened to me, and I definitely got a speed improvement by disabling some of the services. And thank God I was able to turn off that d*** security pop-up. It may be good for someone who doesn't know better, but I got tired of telling Vista that yes, I wanted to run portable Firefox, and yes, I really did want to run regedit, and so on, and so on ... -------------------- Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of All Who Threaten Them |

Well I'm down to 49 processes now. I think I will quit while I'm ahead.

Well. I did the tweaks and lost the ability to create a restore point. -------------------- ![]() |
